What it is

The project began with the colour-changing knives, which Adam had loved for fifteen years, and with one awkward question about them: has anyone ever asked to borrow your knife? A lighter, on the other hand, is one of the most recognisable everyday-carry objects there is.

More than a dozen routines are ready to perform the day it arrives — a Banksy artwork that animates and leaves an impossible souvenir; a coin routine where a lucky coin is crushed into the lighter and back out again, with every currency covered; a full colour-changing lighter sequence that ends with the spectator smudging the logo and leaving their fingerprint behind; an icebreaker lighter for walking up to a group and introducing yourself; a hypnosis routine that finishes on an optical-illusion reveal, with stickers to reuse it elsewhere; and the Barber Shop Pole, which tells the story of why barber poles look the way they do while the magic happens, and ends completely examinable.

It also ships with a toolkit for making your own lighters using nothing more than an inkjet printer, with templates and full instructions.

The teaching runs to roughly three and a half hours, and reviewers were explicit that the material is not out of reach of a beginner.
